Gluck’s Iphigénie (11/23/25)

 

Theo Hoffman, noted for his "gorgeous, wide-ranging baritone," appears in November 2025 for a role debut as Oreste in Iphigénie en Tauride at the Opéra Comique in Paris, as well as a concert performance of the opera with Washington Concert Opera the same month, with iterations of the Opéra Comique production planned for future seasons. 

Recent operatic performances include a role debut as Pelléas in Pelléas et Mélisande with the National Symphony Orchestra of Taiwan, his first contract at the Metropolitan Opera covering the Sensor in Jeanine Tesori's Grounded, a house debut with Opernhaus Zürich in a new production of Platée, a house debut with Staatsoper Hamburg as Poeta in Il Turco in Italia, where he returned to sing Lescaut in Massenet's Manon

Signature roles include Papageno in Die Zauberflöte which he has performed at Los Angeles Opera and Israeli Opera, Count Almaviva in Le nozze di Figaro which he debuted as a student at Juilliard and has taken him to Israeli Opera, New Orleans Opera, North Carolina Opera, and Opera Theatre of Saint Louis, and Schaunard in La Bohème which he has sung at Seattle Opera, Sacramento Philharmonic & Opera, and Atlanta Opera. 

Mr. Hoffman is extremely at home in contemporary music, and performed the critically acclaimed world premiere of Philip Venables and Ted Huffman's Denis & Katya at Opera Philadelphia. He has performed several works of Philip Glass, including Satyagraha at LA Opera, Les Enfants Terribles at Opera Omaha, and The Trial at Opera Theatre of Saint Louis, where he also was seen as Demetrius in Britten's A Midsummer Night's Dream

He has concertized with Salzburg Mozartwoche, Israel Philharmonic, Orchestre National de Lille, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Vocal Arts DC, Castleton Festival, Ravinia Festival, St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, Marlboro Music, and Bard Music Festival. He has performed under the baton of Leonard Slatkin, Leon Fleisher, Emmanuelle Haïm, Giovanni Antonini, Plácido Domingo, James Conlon, Giacomo Sagripanti, Giedrė Šlekytė, Marin Alsop, Michele Gamba, and Christopher Allen. He has performed in productions of Barrie Kosky, Christof Loy, Tim Albery, Chas Rader-Shieber, David Bösch, Ted Huffman, Jetske Mijnssen, James Darrah, Mary Birnbaum, Phelim McDermott, Sir David Pountney, and others. 

Mr. Hoffman holds a degree from The Juilliard School, where he was a student of Sanford Sylvan. He is a graduate of the Domingo-Colburn-Stein Young Artist Program at Los Angeles Opera, and is a laureate of the Richard Tucker Music Foundation, as well as a Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions grand finalist. He serves on the artistic board of New York Festival of Song, and released his debut album, Schubert Beatles on the NYFOS label last year. Mr. Hoffman resides in Munich.
