Haydn’s Armida (10/24/26)

Soprano Shannon Crowley is a 2026 Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition Grand Finals Winner, hailing from Virginia Beach, Virginia. A current Resident Artist at Pittsburgh Opera, her assignments during the 2025-2026 season include singing Nannetta in Falstaff, Mary Johnson in Fellow Travelers, Bailey in the world premiere of Laura Kaminsky's Time to Act, and covering Musetta in La bohème. This summer, she joins the Merola Opera Program, and next season’s engagements include Zelmira in Haydn’s Armida with Washington Concert Opera, and covering a Flower Maiden in Parsifal at the Metropolitan Opera.

In the 2024-2025 season, her first as a Pittsburgh Opera Resident Artist, Ms. Crowley’s roles included Zelmira in Haydn’s Armida, and the Shepherd Boy in Tosca. She spent the summer of 2025 as an Apprentice Artist at Des Moines Metro Opera, covering the leading role of Anne Trulove in The Rake’s Progress, and debuted in the world premiere of The Selfish Giant, also covering the role of Norina in Don Pasquale, as a 2023 Festival Artist with Opera Saratoga.

On the concert stage, Shannon has appeared as the soprano soloist in Handel's Messiah with the Memphis Symphony Orchestra as well as Poulenc's Gloria with Michigan State University.

With Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music, Shannon performed the roles of Drusilla in L'incoronazione di Poppea, Jenny Hildebrand in Street Scene, and covered the role of Belinda in Dido and Aeneas. At the Michigan State School of Music, she sang Miss Wordsworth in Albert Herring, Le Feu and La Princesse in L'enfant et les Sortileges, Giulia in La Scala di Seta, and Servilia in La Clemenza di Tito.

Shannon has received recognition in various prestigious competitions, including the Mildred Miller Competition (Third place), Ruth Burr Competition (First place), and Grand Rapids Opera Competition (Second place). Shannon holds a Master's degree from Rice University, and a Bachelor's degree from Michigan State University.
