Director of Operations
The Organization: Washington Concert Opera (WCO), now in its 39th season, features the presentation of rarely performed operatic masterpieces, giving established artists the opportunity to perform in debut roles as well as signature roles while introducing the exceptional talents of emerging artists.
Led by Artistic Director and Conductor Antony Walker, WCO produces two-three high-quality performances of works in concert form, with full chorus and orchestra. In addition, WCO provides education programs for the community and holds special fundraising events throughout the year. WCO has been applauded as “integral to the musical fabric of the city” (The Washington Post) and praised by Opera News for “performances of the highest order.”
Overview of Position: This position is central to all WCO activities. It is a perfect opportunity for someone who is highly organized, a fast learner, and who enjoys the performing arts. Some weekend and evening work is required.
Status: Full-time
Location: Fixed Split Hybrid: Three to five days per week onsite as assigned. Some weekend/evening work is required for events

RESPONSIBILITIES
OPERATIONS
Lead the implementation of concert production; such as stage & technical requirements, instrument rental, licenses and other logistical arrangements.
Manage all aspects of the Opera Outside outreach/pop-up series throughout the DC Metro Area; including research of venues; calendaring the events; negotiation of artist, vendor and venue contracts; and securing necessary park permits (when applicable) to ensure a positive experience for all.
Create and manage scheduling and production documents (including production schedules, artist itineraries and stage and pit plots - when applicable)
Manage all artist travel and accommodations for the development of the itineraries/schedules
Issue and track all guest artist & venue contracts for signature and ensure compliance with technical riders, collective bargaining agreements and other relevant work rules
Work with vendors to obtain and manage equipment, rehearsal/performance schedules and services for all concerts and outreach events
Recruit and coordinate seasonal production staff (ie. stage manager, librarian, supertitles manager, pre-concert lecturer(s), etc.)
Assist with the preparation of checks for deposits, credit card processing and bill reconciliation
MARKETING & DEVELOPMENT
Manage all production aspects for the successful execution of fundraising events including cast parties, Opera Gems, meet the artist cocktail hours, and the annual Gala.
Assist with the content management of the printed full-stage concert programs and prepare them for printing
As needed, assist with ticket orders, donations and other general queries
Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree, desirable with a minimum of three years managing similar responsibilities
Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, project management skills and the ability to plan and handle multiple deadlines.
Must have great interpersonal skills to work with a variety of constituents from an array of lived experiences
Strong written, technology and computer skills
Flexibility to work outside of normal office hours at concerts and events
Must have a valid U.S. driver’s license
Able to lift, carry, and/or move up to 30 lbs.
Residence in the Washington, D.C. metro area required after assumption of position
DESIRABLE
Familiarity with the opera, classical music, and/or theater industry
Experience with theater/audiovisual equipment and technology
Familiarity with PATRON MANAGER (donor/ticketing software)
COMPENSATION
This is a full-time (exempt) position requiring some evening and weekend work to cover WCO concerts and events. Salary Range: $65,000 - 80,000 (commensurate with experience.)
