The Guild for Washington Concert Opera is a support organization that offers educational/social programs to enhance audiences’ experiences with Washington Concert Opera.

Activities include special lectures prior to WCO productions by distinguished musicologists and programs that add to your knowledge or provide unique insights about opera and related subjects.

The Guild’s popular brunch series, Insider Insights, has featured singers and prominent individuals with ties to the opera world talking about their careers and organizations.  Among the speakers have been singers Elizabeth Futral, Lawrence Brownlee, Elizabeth Bishop, and Francois Loup, Washington Post Music Critic Anne Midgette, Regional Director for the Metropolitan Opera Auditions Eleanor Forrer, and WCO’s own Artistic Director Antony Walker.

reservations for the october 13, 2019 guild brunch at the army navy club, with special guest carmen balthrop, can be made here:

The Guild also sponsors trips to outstanding opera performances outside the D.C. area. These trips include informative tours that provide insights into the local art and culture, behind-the-scenes experiences or meet-the-singers opportunities, and often visits to artists’ studios. Guild members have traveled to Santa Fe Opera for Maestro Walker’s conducting debut with the company, and to Sarasota Opera for Verdi's I Lombardi and a 50th anniversary production of The Crucible with composer Robert Ward in attendance. Past trips have included visits to Pittsburgh Opera, Opera Theater of Philadelphia, Opera Theatre of St. Louis, San Francisco Opera, Santa Fe Opera, Glimmerglass Opera, Berlin, and most recently Zürich, Switzerland.

The Guild was founded to support and promote awareness of WCO and is dedicated to its growth and prosperity, so there is a real camaraderie among the membership. Since the Guild is entirely separate from Washington Concert Opera, donations to WCO do not apply toward Guild membership.

Annual dues are $35 single, $50 double (two persons living in the same household).
