The Guild for Washington Concert Opera invites you to join fellow opera lovers for a seven-day, six-night trip to Hamburg, Germany, offering the opportunity to experience three operas at the Hamburg State Opera, Mahler’s Symphony No. 2, “Resurrection,” at the Elbphilharmonie, and time to explore one of Europe’s great cultural cities.

Arrivals in Hamburg are anticipated for Sunday, February 28, 2027. Accommodations will be at the Hamburg Marriott Hotel, located in the heart of the city. The tentative itinerary includes a tour of the Elbphilharmonie, a full-day excursion to the historic Hanseatic city of Lübeck, opportunities to explore Hamburg’s Speicherstadt and HafenCity districts, a welcome dinner at the Michelin-starred Landhaus Scherrer, and free time to discover Hamburg independently.
Travelers should plan for additional expenses, including transportation to and from Hamburg, hotel accommodations, performance tickets, excursions, meals not specifically included in the itinerary, and other personal expenses.

Begin the day with a tour of the spectacular Elbphilharmonie, one of Hamburg’s most recognizable landmarks and an internationally celebrated center for music. The afternoon will be free for lunch, rest, and personal exploration.
In the evening, attend a performance of Mahler’s Symphony No. 2, “Resurrection,” at the Elbphilharmonie. Mahler began work on the symphony during his years in Hamburg, making the opportunity to hear it performed in the city especially meaningful. Click here for performance overview.

Enjoy a full-day excursion to Lübeck, the historic “Queen of the Hanseatic League.” The day will include opportunities to explore Lübeck’s medieval Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and landmarks including the iconic Holstentor Gate.
That evening, gather for a welcome dinner at Landhaus Scherrer, a Michelin-starred restaurant known for refined North German cuisine.

Spend the morning exploring Hamburg’s historic waterfront, including the Speicherstadt warehouse district and HafenCity. The tentative itinerary includes opportunities to explore the area on foot or by canal cruise.

To reserve your place, a $500 nonrefundable deposit is required. Additional details, including a final itinerary and associated costs, will be shared this fall with those who have reserved a spot. This deposit is a tax-deductible donation to Washington Concert Opera and secures your space on the trip. Space is limited.
