Mozart’s Idomeneo (5/9/26)

From the Kennedy Center to concert stages in Italy, bass-baritone Jim Williams has established a dynamic and evolving career defined by clarity, connection, and refined artistry. A graduate of Oakwood University, he first gained recognition as a member of the Grammy-nominated Aeolians, performing alongside Kathleen Battle, Take 6, and Richard Smallwood.

He made his Washington, D.C. debut as Sarastro in The Magic Flute with The IN Series, followed by Figaro in Figaro in Four Quartets. As a member of the Washington National Opera chorus, he appeared in Faust, Tosca, Otello, Così fan tutte, and Carmen, building a strong foundation in the operatic repertoire. His work spans both opera and musical theatre, with roles ranging from Mozart to Guys and Dolls and The Pirates of Penzance.

With Washington National Opera, he made his solo debut as the Assistant Prime Minister in Fidelio, directed by Francesca Zambello, performing alongside Denyce Graves. He returned this season as Luddud in Scott Joplin’s Treemonisha, further distinguishing himself as an artist of presence and versatility.

Recent highlights include his Opera Montana debut as Booker T. Washington in Ragtime. He has appeared as bass soloist in Messiah, Fauré’s Requiem, Brahms’ Requiem, and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, and will perform Mozart’s Requiem this season, continuing to shape a career of increasing depth and distinction.
