From Pushkin’s verse novel Eugene Onegin, a seminal work of 19th -century Russian literature, John Cranko has created a ballet centered around five characters: the poet Lenski, Olga, Tatiana, the dandy Onegin, and Prince Gremin.

FEBRUARY 13 - Castor et Pollux by Jean-Philippe Rameau at Palais Garnier
A piece rarely performed in its original version, this daring work plays on contrasts and expressiveness, as in the famous Tristes apprêts. Directed by Peter Sellars, starring soprano Jeanine De Bique, mezzo soprano Stephanie d’Oustrac, and tenors Reinoud Van Mechelen and Marc Mauillon.
FEBRUARY 14 - Das Rheingold by Richard Wagner at Opéra Bastille
Director Calixto Bieito places The Rheingold in a context dominated by digital virtuality and questions the impact of technology and science on human beings. Starring Ludovic Tezier, Florent Mbia, Matthew Cairns, Simon O’Neill, Brian Mulligan, Gerhard Siegel, Kwangchul Youn, Mike Kares, Eve-Maud Hubeaux, Eliza Boom, Marie-Nicole Lemieux, Margarita Polonskaya, Isabel Signoret, and Katharina Magiera.
