Puccini’s La Rondine (4/7/24)

 

Northern Virginia based soprano, Tess Ottinger is an alumna of Virginia Commonwealth University (BM) and the Johns Hopkins Peabody Institute (MM), where she studied with Dr. Stanley Cornett. She discovered her love for the classical vocal arts when she started her training in 2009 with Metropolitan Opera soprano, Danielle Talamantes. Since then, she has immersed herself in all forms of classical vocal literature, from opera to art song, oratorio, and choral repertoire.

Last season, Tess received an Encouragement Award from the Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition in addition to covering the role of Dalinda in Handel’s Ariodante with Pittsburgh Opera. Her previous roles include Mabel in The Pirates of Penzance, Lisette in La Rondine, Lauretta in Gianni Schicchi, and Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro. She currently studies with Elizabeth Daniels and is on the voice faculty of the prestigious Duke Ellington School of the Arts in Washington, DC.

 

On CD, Mr.Arrey can be heard as Lescaut on the recording of Puccini’s Manon Lescaut for Decca Classics alongside Andrea Bocelli and Plácido Domingo.

In addition to his work on the opera stage, baritone Javier Arrey is a world-class interpreter of Lieder and concert repertoire most recently performing Carmina Burana in Europe, Beethoven’s An die ferne Geliebte in USA and Dvořák’s Biblical Songs & Gypsy Songs in Czech Republic.

In 2017, Javier was given the prestigious “Congressional Medal of Honor” at the National Congress of Chile in recognition of his artistic career and his social labor bringing the Opera to populations who have no access to live performances.
