Charles Gounod's
Sapho
Sunday, November 18, 2018
6 PM
Presented at Lisner Auditorium.
Details about pre-performance lectures will be announced soon.
Unusual for its time, Gounod's first opera rejected traditional elements of French grand opera in favor of a deeply psychological drama. Sapho centers around intense, competing love affairs - developing within the context of the ancient Greek Olympics - all while the tantalizing possibility of a political coup bubbles just beneath the surface. Internationally renowned mezzo-soprano Kate Lindsey will return to WCO in the title role, with two acclaimed emerging artists making their WCO debuts: tenor Addison Marlor as Phaon, and soprano Amina Edris as Glycère.
