Fans of Richard Strauss will delight in this fine composer’s first opera, which shows strong influence of Richard Wagner. Guntram follows in the footsteps of Strauss’ extremely evocative tone poems and foreshadows many of Strauss’ later works including Arabella, Daphne and Die Frau ohne Schatten. Tenor Russell Thomas returns to WCO to sing the title role and celebrated soprano Marjorie Owens sings Freihild. Tom Fox joins them as the Duke. This presentation will be a first for WCO and the second presentation ever offered in the United States.
